The Council on Governmental Relations has released an update reinforcing that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act Safeguards Rule audit objective likely won't emerge until the FY19 audit process.
Earlier this year, I highlighted a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on information security concerns related to federal student aid programs. In the report, GAO quotes an anonymous Federal Student Aid (FSA) official as stating that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) Safeguards Rule audit objective originally slated for the FY18 federal single audit process would likely be delayed until the FY19 audit. More recently, our colleagues at the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), the association for higher education research administration, published information indicating that the audit objective would not be included in any FY18 audit guidance. This would mean that the objective could not be implemented until the FY19 federal single audit at the earliest. For more details, please see COGR's May Update and look for the following items:
