Data Privacy Month 2014Did you know that Data Privacy Month (January 28-February 28, 2015) is just two months away? Now is the perfect time for colleges and universities to start planning activities and events.

Here are several ways that you can help raise awareness about data privacy issues on your campus.

  • Become a Data Privacy Day Champion. (It’s free and easy!)
  • Download Data Privacy Month logos and graphics for your institution's website.
  • Host a free webinar on January 20, 2015, 1-2 pm ET (details available soon). Consider including a follow-up discussion on privacy with faculty, staff, or students after the webinar.
  • Announce Data Privacy Month in your institution's newsletters or blogs.
  • Promote the Data Privacy Day theme ("Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data, Enabling Trust"), or develop weekly themes for your campus.
  • Post daily tweets [https://staysafeonline.org/download/datasets/11383/Data%20Privacy%20Day%202015%20Sample%20Social%20Media%20Posts.pdf] in January and February. (Tip: Use tools like TweetDeck or HootSuite to schedule tweets ahead of time!)
  • Highlight the 2013 student video and poster contest winners on your institution's website or across campus using digital signs.
  • Read and share Privacy Tips for College Administrators [http://staysafeonline.org/data-privacy-day/get-involved/college-administrators] or peruse NCSA's Privacy Library [http://staysafeonline.org/data-privacy-day/privacy-library/].

Tip: Visit the EDUCAUSE Data Privacy Month website for additional ideas and information about how to get your campus involved. You can also learn more about Data Privacy Day, which is held every year on January 28.
