The pendulum has fallen off its pin and is stuck in the mud. We must find ways to stimulate and scale change across institutions—as well as to sustain those changes—if we are to create models that can serve the expanding needs of our learners.
The articles and books that scholars produce today bear little mark of the digital age in which they are created. Thus the foundation of academic life—the scholarship on which everything else is built—remains surprisingly unaltered.
Without sustained care and attention, the digital works that delight and inform our lives quickly decay into digital dust. The Digital Preservation Network provides a structure for vetting and protecting digital treasures for future generations.
